Project Description
Book cover and layout design for pocket poetry book 22 Things.
To describe the creative behind this project, I decided to take on the challenge of writing a poem of my own—a haiku:
Through rhythm and form
Poetic composition
To keep the balance
22 Things celebrates beauty, presence of mind, acceptance and simplicity. It isn't about perfection or approval, but rather the freedom and space for grace one creates in the present moment through a humble and heartfelt intelligence.
Although there is no haiku among Jet Widick's poetic musings in 22 Things, this style of poetry has a specific structure, style and philosophy that dictate its form. It depicts the essence of a mood or moment, and emphasizes brevity and clarity—much like a book cover or logo design.
There are those who believe that creativity is about getting rid of structure, systems and processes, but structure and freedom are not opposites. They are complementary forces that exist within each other. Structure is what creates the opportunity, and creativity is what allows the opportunity to unfold.
"Pare down to the essence, but don't remove the poetry." — Leonard Koren
